What Should I Bring To My First Appointment?

Bring your ID document and, if you are claiming from a medical aid, your membership details. A list of anything you take regularly and any recent test results or specialist letters will help Dr Hoosain understand your history.

Which Aviation Medical Class Do I Need?

The class depends on your licence. Airline transport and commercial pilots need a Class 1 certificate; private and student pilots and cabin crew need Class 2, air traffic controllers need Class 3, and recreational pilots need Class 4. Visit Aerospace Medicine for more information.

Can I Book An Aviation Medical If I Have A Chronic Condition?

You can. Many chronic conditions are compatible with flying once they are well controlled and properly documented. Bring any specialist reports with you, and Dr Hoosain will explain whether further information is needed before a certificate can be issued.

Is Palliative Care Only For The End Of Life?

Palliative care can begin at any stage of a serious illness, including at diagnosis. It often runs alongside treatment from other doctors and focuses on managing symptoms and supporting quality of life. Find more details on Palliative Medicine.

Do I Need A Consultation Before An Aesthetic Treatment?

Every aesthetic treatment starts with a consultation. Dr Hoosain reviews your medical history and examines the area of concern before discussing options, so any recommendation takes your overall health into account.

Does Dr Hoosain Offer Travel Medicine?

Dr Hoosain holds a Travel Medicine Certificate of Competence and offers pre-travel consultations. It is best to book four to six weeks before you leave, as some vaccinations need time to take effect.

Can Dr Hoosain Manage My Chronic Condition Alongside My Specialist?

Dr Hoosain regularly works with specialists and allied health professionals involved in her patients' care. She can take on routine monitoring between specialist visits and keep your records up to date, so everyone involved is working from the same information.

Can I Get A Medical Certificate For Work?

If you are unwell and need time off, Dr Hoosain can issue a sick note after seeing you in person, where this is clinically appropriate. Please note that aviation medical certificates follow a separate SACAA process.

Can My Family Attend A Palliative Care Consultation?

Family members and carers are welcome to join, provided you are comfortable with this. Many patients find it helpful to have someone with them to hear the plan and ask their own questions.

I Am Not A Pilot. Can I Still Ask About Flying With A Medical Condition?

You can. If you have a heart or lung condition, or have recently had surgery, Dr Hoosain can assess your fitness to fly and suggest precautions for the journey.

Do I Need To Fast Before Blood Tests?

Some blood tests, such as a fasting glucose or certain cholesterol tests, give more accurate results if you have not eaten beforehand. If fasting is needed, you will be told when the test is requested.
